A young man named Huang Shan from China had just finished his college degree in hotel management in Toronto, Canada, in 2008 and started working at a hotel in July. But a month later, he noticed a small lump on his neck near his right shoulder.
By December, the lump had grown to the size of a fist, and he went to the emergency room.
After a biopsy just before Christmas, he was diagnosed with late-term lymphoma. He was only 22 years old.
Although he felt no pain, his heart was broken.
“The news really devastated me,” said Huang, according to Minghui.org. “I didn’t know what to do, so I did nothing.”
Huang was an only child, and he was far away from his home country.
He didn’t want to worry his family or return to China. He only told his parents he was sick.
The doctor then arranged 16 sessions of chemotherapy for the young man. The treatment started on a Friday morning and took two and a half hours. Huang was first injected with a saline solution and then the chemo itself.
22-year-old Huang started chemotherapy for his lymphoma in 2009.
“The medication is very toxic,” he said.
That afternoon, he was still scheduled to work. He arrived at the hotel at 4:30 p.m., and within a half hour, he began to feel very ill.
“I felt no strength at all, then I began to vomit non-stop. It was worse than death,” said Huang.
The young man went to chemotherapy twice a week. At first, it took a day to recover his strength. Later, it took longer.
Huang’s hair also began to fall out. After three or four sessions, his hair was nearly gone.
In the beginning, Huang noticed the tumor getting smaller—but soon, the therapy seemed to stop working.
By chance, Huang had come across a spiritual meditation practice called Falun Gong, also called Falun Dafa, that taught people to align with the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance.
He began to realize the true reason for all of his suffering.
He began to read the books and listen to other people’s experiences of the discipline. He realized there was a deeper reason behind people’s illnesses and other suffering, and his heart was encouraged and relieved to understand the truth.
“I told myself that maybe I should take the path of cultivation,” he said.
Huang started learning the five exercises of Falun Gong, which include four gentle standing exercises and a sitting meditation.
He soon found that the exercises helped his body recover more quickly after chemotherapy, and he felt more energetic than before.
“After the seventh treatment, I had a strong feeling that I didn’t want to have chemotherapy anymore,” said Huang. “So I told the doctor to stop the chemotherapy.”
However, the doctor disagreed and encouraged him to finish the treatment. He even sent Huang to see a psychiatrist, because he thought the young man might be having mental issues.
After a few visits, Huang insisted that he wanted to stop the chemotherapy.
“The doctor had to respect my wish,” he said.
For three months, Huang practiced Falun Gong consistently. His hair began to grow back, and his complexion looked healthy.
“At the end of 2009, the doctor told me to come back for another exam,” he said.
The results of the exam demonstrated that his cancer was completely gone.
These miraculous health benefits are not the only positive results Huang received from practicing Falun Gong. Before, he had a very bad temper and would argue with his parents.
“I used to be really impatient. If other people were slow in doing something, I had a hard time tolerating them,” he said.
However, when he became sick, he was too weak to become angry, and slowly he changed his outlook on life.
“Gradually and naturally, I got rid of my bad temper. My parents also said that I became more mature,” Huang said.
Huang then began working in sales, and he found that he was more easily able to get along with anyone.
He also became more confident in his spiritual cultivation practice and was grateful toward Falun Dafa for the opportunity to improve and fulfill his new life.
